During the summer of 2013, I headed for the Izu Peninzula, Japan, which is about 3-4 hours ride from Tokyo, in order to capture the sunrise. We went there early, a good couple of hours before the sunrise so we had ample time to explore the area and find a good spot to settle ourselves in.
There was this lighthouse, atop a small cliff of about 50m, from where you could see a pretty gorgeous scenery. I set the tripod and camera and all, and was waiting for the 'moment of truth', so to speak, when suddenly for some reason I can't fathom, I just looked up and saw what you see here. I instantly realized that this could be as good as any sunrise, so I promptly turned the camera upwards and took this shot. I'm very pleased with how it turned out.
